Frequency-Driven Crack Propagation in Ultrasonically-Assisted Bone Cutting

چکیده

Ultrasonically-assisted bone cutting with high precision has manyadvantagesfororthopedic surgeries. However, irregular crack propagation, large fractured chips, and surface damagemay occurduring the processdue to brittleness anisotropy of cortical bone. These can be minimized by optimizing operating parameters tool; frequency, amplitude, speed, depth, temperature, inconsideration toughening mechanism Therefore, current study is motivated investigate effect varying frequencyon propagation in ultrasonically-assisted through means finite element analysis. The pattern relation variation frequencieswas investigated using extended method (XFEM) consideration microstructures. results showed that effectively controlled when tool isoperated at higher frequencies, but an up-forward following trajectory vibration only apparent frequencies than 800 Hz. Neglecting outputsat2400 Hz, induced force stress are observed decrease proportionallywith increasing frequency.

Data-driven Fatigue Crack Evaluation based on Wave Propagation Data

8 This project presents a machine learning based fatigue crack sensor 9 evaluation scheme without using a physical model. A supervised binary 10 classification problem is defined to distinguish damaged steel specimens 11 from intact specimens. Sets of time-series wave propagation data collected 12 by the fatigue crack sensor are utilized for the proposed scheme. In order to 13 apply supervised ...

Measurements of Surface Roughness in Conventional and Ultrasonically Assisted Bone Drilling

Bone fracture due to an accident, aging or diseases is a feature of everyday life. One of the principal methods of repair and reconstruction of such a fracture is based on drilling the bone and fixing its separate parts together using screws, wires and plates. Morphology of the drilled hole surface and fixative components such as screws, pins and hooks influences strength of the bonds between t...

Experimental investigations of forces and torque in conventional and ultrasonically-assisted drilling of cortical bone.

Bone drilling is widely used in orthopaedics and surgery; it is a technically demanding surgical procedure. Recent technological improvements in this area are focused on efforts to reduce forces in bone drilling. This study focuses on forces and a torque required for conventional and ultrasonically-assisted tool penetration into fresh bovine cortical bone. Drilling tests were performed with two...

Crack propagation in viscoelastic solids.

We study crack propagation in a viscoelastic solid. Using simple arguments, we derive equations for the velocity dependence of the crack-tip radius, a (v) , and for the energy per unit area to propagate the crack, G (v) . For a viscoelastic modulus E (omega) which increases as omega(1-s) (0< s< 1) in the transition region between the rubbery region and the glassy region, we find that a (v) appr...
